April 15, 1865 Lincoln Assassination Newspaper, Lewiston, Maine — This complete four-page Lewiston Daily Evening Journal from April 15, 1865 contains extraordinary news and intelligence from less than 24 hours after Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth.  Secretary Stanton’s bulletin from the War Department to Major General Dix, issued April 15th at 8 a.m. announces: “ABRAHAM LINCOLN DIED THIS MORNING AT TWENTY-TWO MINUTES AFTER SEVEN O’CLOCK…” — making this a first report on Lincoln’s death.  Other stories include “Heartrending Particulars of the Assassination,” “The Last Official Acts of the President,” and “Particulars of the Death of Pres. Lincoln”.
